John West believes in public education. He believes that every child - every student – deserves the very best we have to offer in the educational arena. He believes that our students must have the best learning environment and our teachers must have access to the best tools to teach effectively. John and his wife, Priscilla, are products of the Berkeley County public schools. All six of their children have been or are being educated in the public schools and universities of this State.
John not only believes in our public education system, but supports it with his time and money. In August 2000, the Berkeley County Foundation for Education (www.bcfoundationfored.org) was organized as a non-profit organization. This organization was formed specifically to provide an enriched educational experience for all students in Berkeley County. John was instrumental in organizing and incorporating this Foundation and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since its inception. The Foundation is governed by an all-volunteer nine member Board of Directors who believe that an investment in the education of our students in Berkeley County is an investment in the quality of life in Berkeley County. Since August 2000, this Foundation has been able to put approximately $70,000 into the hands of teachers in the classrooms here in Berkeley County in order to give our students an enriched educational experience. The Foundation for Education is dedicated to funding the development of educational excellence in Berkeley County.
